Way back in 2015, three Seattleites came together with a dream of opening a craft brewery and making it a bold, sustainable, and community-focused space for people from all backgrounds. Now, millions of pints later, we are more excited than ever to bring our unique combination of West Coast simplicity and East Coast passion to our nation’s capital.
Red Bear Brewing is your one-stop shop in the heart of NoMa for great vibes, great times with friends, and the best pours of lagers, pale ales, stouts, and much more. But of course, do not just take our word for it—swing by our Washington D.C. brewery today to see for yourself!
Ever since we first opened our brewery in March of 2019, we have been dedicated not just to brewing the best beer in Washington D.C., but also to putting sustainability and diversity first in everything we do. From our point of view, a beer should not just be something you drink without thinking, like most of the products you get from corporate giants—it should be an experience all its own, and a gateway to connections with coworkers and local community members alike.
Our commitment to community does not just stay within our taproom, either. We are proud members of the DC Brewers’ Guild, the Brewers Association, and the DC Equality Chamber of Commerce, and we are active participants in events within the NoMa Business Improvement District as well as sponsors for the Washington Scandals Rugby Football Club. Most importantly, our operation is built around conservation and resource efficiency, from our reclaimed-wood furniture to the cutting-edge steam boiler we use for brewing, to even our location in the renovated and renewed Uline Arena, which was first constructed in 1931 and originally served as a concert hall—the very first place the Beatles played on U.S. soil.
We are constantly trying out new flavors and recipes in our spacious and scenic taproom, but we also know how important it is to have dependable go-tos in your brewery lineup—after all, we are beer drinkers too! For Washington D.C. fans of hops, you cannot go wrong with our brewery’s Dissent Hazy IPA or our 51st State New England-style IPA, both of which are available on tap, in 16-ounce four-packs, and as growler fills. Looking for something a little lighter? We have got you covered with our Hefe Wagen Hefeweizen and our FuROARi Lite Italian Pilsner.
In addition to beer, we also have seltzer, cider, and multiple varieties of house wine available by the glass, as well as specialty cocktails and mocktails. And of course, a good drink deserves good food to go with it, so if you are feeling peckish, enjoy our shareable appetizers, sandwiches and sliders, salads, and desserts.
In addition to weekly trivia nights, we also regularly host RuPaul’s Drag Race watch parties, drag brunches, and bingo nights hosted by the DC Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing—or just have a loved one who is—we have ASL events as well, including special trivia themes and open-mic nights.
Even when there is nothing big on the calendar, we have got dozens of board games available for free play, with selections ranging from timeless classics to brand-new Kickstarter releases that our brewery is thrilled to sponsor and show off to our Washington D.C. customers. Ever wonder how beer goes from grain to glass? Creativity meets science in each batch of beer brewed at Red Bear Brewing Co. We follow methods to control each variable as closely as we can through each step of the process. We also perform sensory tests to ensure the beer is up to snuff. As in, we taste the beer. For quality. A lot.
